Kadhal Kadhai, starring Shirley Das, Prithi and Rangayani in major roles, is based on the lines of a boring documentary on women's mental and sexual difficulties, because of their sexual suppression in Indian culture. From beginning till the end , the film repeatedly challenges the gospel of love, i.e. "Love is divine" and poses the argument that love is simply an alternate name for sex (love is lust).
After a prolonged battle with the Censor Board over the skin show in Kadhal Kadhai (originally titled Kadhal Arangam), director Velu Prabhakaran has finally released the trimmed narration the film with an 'A' Certificate. (challenging the local Censors' cuts of the partial nudity in most of the scenes by his heroine shirley Das, the director appealed to the Central Censor Board, Delhi, which also suggested similar cuts. The director finally relented to accept and deleted the semi-nude scenes.)
